Jonathan Schanzer

On Wednesday, July 28, Bob and Lorelei Ennis hosted an AIPAC breakfast event at their home. The guest speaker was Mr. Jonathan Schanzer. Jonathan is the Vice President of Research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the author of Hamas vs. Fatah: The Struggle for Palestine. Prior to that he was the Deputy Executive Director of the Jewish Policy Center and served as a counterterrorism analyst at the Treasury Department. Schanzer gave us an up to date view ofsome of the current political and military issues facing Israel. Anew threat, however, is a revived and growing international campaign to delegitimize Israel’s very existence. Wesaw it with the Goldstone Report and the Gaza flotilla. We see it in protests, boycotts, and divestment campaigns in European capitals and throughout the Arab world – and often, unfortunately, right here at home; such as in the writings of Jimmy Carter, Walter Mearsheimer or Oliver Stone’s new Showtime documentary entitled “The Secret History of America,” which will show thatAdolf Hitlerwas “an easy scapegoat” and will help put the mass murderer in “context.” We see it at the United Nations, which passes one-sided resolutions condemning Israel for taking steps to defend itself and its people. These attacks are being waged by Israel’s detractors who know all too well that that a country, which is “deligitimatized,” simply isn’t worth saving.

Israelcan count on America’s support, but AIPAC must continue to work toreinforce the special bond and relationship between Israel and the United States to counter those who would try to drive a wedge between us.

Neve Michael

Children’s Foster Village in Pardes-Hanna, Israel

In June our temple Israel trip led by Rabbi and Shoshi Lipson visited Neve Michael Children’s Village in Pardes-Hanna, Israel. The families who sponsored children at the village met with their children and were taken on tours of the campus, their group homes, the library and classrooms.

Clothesline

At Neve Michael, we, together with your kind support, service all our children’s needs, from professional services down to the bare necessities. Our Clothesline Program is an ongoing effort to keep our children properly clothed. In many cases, when our children first arrive at our Crisis Center they have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Keeping our newly arrived children in proper clothing is a top priority. It is also a big morale booster for our children, as it shows them that there are caring adults who are sensitive to their needs. This basic service remains a top priority as our growing children become fully integrated in our Children’s Village.

Unfortunately, we have received little government funding in this most essential area and have no recourse but to rely on the generosity of our kind donors. Our children’s wardrobe needs cover the full range of clothing requirements for growing children, from everyday clothes to clothes for Shabbat and special occasions, including holidays and Bar/Bat-Mitzvahs. Shoes are a constant need, and our supply of shoes has to be regularly replenished; the same goes for our supply of shirts, blouses, trousers and skirts.

Our Clothesline Program welcomes all contributions, large and small, and the participation of caring individuals who are willing to help clothe our children. What a wonderful mitzvah project for our bar and bat mitzvah children, a class or a group of friends, to help clothe the children of Neve Michael. Or, your child can sponsor a child for his or her mitzvah project. A $300 donation will allow your family to sponsor a child for one year and bring joy to lives of these beautiful children.   Please contact Lorelei Ennis at akidsbook@aol.com to help arrange for your child’s mitzvah project.

If you are sponsoring a child and want to write to them or send a gift, you can e-mail our program coordinator in Israel, Debbie Paneth, at sponsor-a-child@nevemichael.com.
